Wedding Cakes

The wedding cake is the main focus of the wedding reception (except for the bride  and groom of course). The first official duty to be carried out by the Bride and groom is the cutting of the cake which traditionally takes place following the main course and prior to the bridal waltz. We recommend that you book your cake 6-8 weeks in advance. October through to April is high peak wedding season and we recommend 3-4 months advance booking to avoid any dissapointments during this time, due to The Cake Tin being very busy. Once you book your cake a $100 deposit will secure you a spot on the calendar. The balance is payable 10 days prior to the wedding date.

Choosing your cake

Gone are the days where the traditional fruit cake is to be used as a wedding cake. Nowdays any flavour goes and many people choose to have different flavours for each tier. It is important that you choose a flavour that you are happy with. Choosing more than one flavour can mean that your guests have a greater choice to indulge their sweet-tooth.

It is important that you have the cake you desire and so we recommend that an initial consultation is set up so that Sarah can discuss your requirements with you. At this meeting you should bring any relevant pictures of not only things you like but also things you dislike. It is a good idea to come fully prepared and with a fair idea of what you like and want so that you can maximise your consultation time. This consultation is free, however any further consultations will be charged at $25 per hour.

The following points are something you may wish to consider when choosing your cake:

  • How is the cake to be served
  • As a dessert or part of a dessert buffet you will need more cake to ensure there is enough for each guest than if you were to be serving it with coffee.
  • The size is also dependent on the number of guests you have attending.
  • What shape would you like the cakes.
  • The availability of fresh flowers and fresh fruit will determine the price as these are seasonal.
  • Do you wish to keep the top tier for the first born child or anniversary.
  • If you have a theme for your wedding and wish to continue that to your cake please bring samples of colours, designs and toppers and we can design your cake accordingly.
  • Delivery in the Rotorua region can be made at a cost of $30. Delivery to other regions will be by prior arrangement only.

   Pricing Guideline

It is important that you are realistic when choosing your cake and you stick to the budget you have decided upon. It is important that you remember a large part of the cost of the cake is the labour content. A very detailed, intricate design, or a cake with a lot of decoration, will be more expensive than something with a simple design. A big thing to remember is what you want seen on the day of your wedding, as the cake, when arranged properly, will be the centerpiece of the room.

The following is a guide line only. All flavours cost the same.

  • Our basic 2 tier wedding cake starts from $260
  • Our basic 3 tier wedding cake starts from $320

Basic means that it is iced with either white, ivory or chocolate icing , edged with satin ribbon and on an iced board. For more information on pricing please contact us.

Table Dressing

The table that your cake is displayed on can be enhanced by using such things as cake stands, chiffon, organza, flowers- either bouquets or petals or special arrangements. At The Cake Tin we can provide these for you to complete the look and arrange them on the day along with your cake. We can also provide special cake stands,  from silver with hanging crystals, cupcake stands, to ceramic or crystal stands, we can elevate your cake. All table dressings are hired out with a refundable deposit required. Please make mention if you wish to hire any of these when you book your cake.
